WHAT IS THE SECRET OF WASHING YOUR CUTE CLOTHES

How many times have you thrown your favorite cute clothes, or even your workout clothes, into your wash machine only to ruin them? One of the most important aspects of the fashion world and, therefore, women’s fashion is to know how to wash your beloved clothes. The reason most people ruin their clothes is that people do not know how to wash them. They just throw their favorite outfits with all the other clothes in the washer and hope for the best. Unfortunately, that is the wrong way to go because every fabric needs to be cleaned differently. There is a fashionista in all of us, so how to we clean, wash and protect the cute clothes we so dearly own.

WASHING ACRYLIC

Acrylic has been around since the 1940s and is best washed in warm water. Easy to clean; however, what is unfortunate is that acrylic is usually paired with other textiles. Therefore, always check the label before tossing it in the washing machine. When you iron this material, use medium heat because too much heat causes the material to peel hence making your favorite sweater shed.

WASHING YOUR FAVORITE CASHMERE SWEATER

Cashmere is a very delicate and expensive material. The fabric comes from the silky coat of cashmere goats, making the fabric a statement of luxury. Because cashmere is so costly, most people send it to the dry cleaners, which is unnecessary. You can clean Cashmere a regular wash machine using the “delicate” or “wool” cycle. If you want to hand-wash the material, use baby shampoo and cold water. When it is time to dry, don’t wring the fabric; lay the sweater flat and let it dry by itself.

CUTE CLOTHES AND COTTON DRESSES

Common throughout the world, cotton is one of the easiest materials to clean. Cotton shirts and sheets are machine washable and can be ironed. Cotton is a little bit delicate and is hard to handle. If you have white outfits, wash them in hot water. While for colors use warm or cool water. Be careful not to keep them in the drier too long because the cotton will shrink. This way, you don’t ruin your Victorian dress.

LEATHER AND SUEDE

Leather and suede are both very delicate materials and are vulnerable to dehydration and dirt. There are typically four things that can ruin leather: abrasion, chafing, oxidation, and oily compounds. If you can’t afford a professional cleaner, try to use mild soap and water. If you hand-clean suede, use a suede protector afterward. Suede protector is water repellent and will protect your clothes from wet weather. While suede is wash-machine friendly, leather isn’t.

WASHING LINENS

People can wash all linens, even though some are labeled “dry-clean only.” The key to washing linens is not to overcrowd them because linens absorb more water than other clothes. Wash linens separately. To eliminate wrinkles on linen clothes, turn them inside out and iron them using steam.

NYLON CUTE CLOTHES

Another common material found in almost everything, from bras to underwear, is nylon. This material is wash-machine friendly, either using cold water or warm water. For white fabrics, use only cold water. If you want to avoid wrinkles, lay the fabric down and let it dry by itself or put your clothes in the dryer at a low heat setting.

WASHING CLOTHES – POLYESTER

Made from recycled plastic bottles, polyester is a low-cost wrinkle-free fabric. Polyester is machine washable at a warm wash setting. If you have a dryer, use a low heat setting as well.

CLEANING RAYON & VISCOSE

Rayon and Viscose are usually mixed with other fabrics and these two tend to shrink. The best way to clean these delicate materials is to either take them to the dry cleaner or hand-wash them using cold water and let them air dry.

CUTE CLOTHES MADE OF SILK

The reason silk is so expensive is because silk comes from the silkworm cocoon. You cannot synthesize silk or make it by hand. When it comes to silk, follow the label. When the label says “dry-clean only,” take it to your trusted dry cleaner’s. Although some fashion experts say it’s okay to clean it at home, be careful because silk fades. Test a small area with a damp cloth to see if the color fades. If it doesn’t, hand-wash it with a mild shampoo, roll it in a dry towel to get the water out, and let it air dry.

CUTE CLOTHES & SPANDEX

Spandex holds on to odor, so if you want to wash gym clothes, use a sports detergent and separate your light-colored spandex from your dark ones because colors can blend in the washer. Workout clothes tend to get dirty often because you use them more often than other garments, so it’s important not to damage them in the washer. Some experts say that you should hand wash them only because after being used for so long, they tend to get damaged easier.

WASHING WOOL

A rule of thumb is do not wash wool too often but if you must use the “delicates” cycle on your washer when you wash your wool sweater. Always use a gentle detergent on wool. Even if you choose to hand-wash your clothes, most detergents are too harsh on wool and end up damaging the fabric. Therefore, always remember to read the label.

Who doesn’t love fashion? Who doesn’t love cute clothes? I always thought whether you are a blogger like me or you just enjoy shopping, there is a fashionista in all of us. From jeans to gym clothes for women; from leather jackets to high heels, we all enjoy dressing up and looking good. So, why not take care of those cute clothes we all like to wear?
