MAKE YOUR OWN YUMMY GREEN JUICE
How do you make your green juice? You wake up every morning and instead of going for a healthy juice or smoothie you either have coffee or some high fructose soda. What if there is another way to get that morning boost we always crave? What if you can have a healthy breakfast in a glass instead? Green juice is what you need. Almost all studies show that eating vegetables is good for the body; the only problem is when you cook your greens, the heat destroys most nutrients, and some vegetables taste horrible. What if you could save those nutrients in one delicious healthy drink that you can take to your gym or the park or on your way to work? Will that make it worthwhile?
When it comes to healthy foods, it is easier said than done because you have so many to choose from— greens, fruits, juices, a whole world of healthy snacks to get you through the day or to get you through an intense workout at the gym. The only downside is that fruits and processed juice are full of sugar or artificial sweeteners that are bad for you. That’s why your best bet is greens. However horrible they taste greens are a nutrient powerhouse.
THE UNKNOWN SMOOTHIE
One ingredient nobody is thinking of using in smoothies or a juice is arugula. Most of the time used in salads, arugula has many healthy nutrients vital to your daily nutrition. This vegetable has fiber, calcium, beta-carotene, and proteins. While not a widely known addition to the smoothie world, arugula has its charms.
THE KING
One of the main ingredients a healthy green juice should have is kale. This big leafy green became popular in recent years because of its abundant nutrients. Vitamins such as A, B6, and C, together with proteins, iron, and potassium, are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the nutrients this fruit has. Kale works magic, in salads, food, and smoothies. If you have problems with how the blender will handle the leaves, chop them off beforehand.
THE GREEN JUICE QUEEN
If the king of smoothies is kale, then the queen should be Swiss chard. The blender easily chops the soft leaves of Swiss chard. Even though this vegetable is a little bit salty, it will perfectly complement the sweetness of all the other components of your green smoothie. Swiss chard has iron, calcium, and an array of vitamins, including A, C, and K.
IRON AND ANTIOXIDANTS
While primarily used in garnish, parsley is also excellent in a smoothie. Parsley has many vitamins, such as vitamin C, K, and A. When thrown in a smoothie or you make juice out of it, this powerful little herb is an excellent source of iron and antioxidants. The downside to this herb is the peculiar taste that will leave your mouth craving for something sweet, therefore only use it in moderation.
FIBER IN EVERY JUICE GLASS
Hated by kids worldwide, broccoli is a beautiful vegetable to sneak in their smoothies when the little ones are not watching. Because this vegetable might be too harsh for the blender, add only one cup to your magical smoothies. Broccoli is full of fibers and vitamins A, C and, K.
CELERY JUICE
Usually people eat celery with peanut butter but sometimes you can also throw some celery sticks in the blender. Not too many people know this but celery has a lot of health benefits, including regulating your body’s pH balance, reducing inflammation, and helping digestion. Did you know celery also has properties that help soothe your nervous system? If you feel stressed, throw some celery in your smoothie.
GREEN SMOOTHIE FROM THE FAR EAST
Bok choy or Chinese cabbage, predominantly used in stir-fry, is also a great addition to smoothies. This leafy vegetable, although a little bitter, should be mixed with other greens in moderation. Containing only ten calories, Bok Choy is filled with plenty of fibers, proteins, and vitamins like C and K. So, the next time you are in the mood for a quick pick-me-up, just visit your local farmers’ market for all the greens you need for your super delicious green juice.
There you have it, your own amazing and delicious green juice to take it wherever you wish—at the gym, in the park, doing aerobics, etc. Nothing says healthy as much as a tasty green juice, and if you really can’t stand the taste, here’s a little secret: add a little bit of coconut water or put some delicious fruit in.
